Link Permissions to Security Roles
Objective
Select the specific predefined permissions that apply to a security role.
Before you start
Determine which system functions each security role is allowed to access and for which actions.
How to link permissions to a security role
- Open the security role's edit screen.
- Click the Permission tab, then:
- click
in the toolbar to lookup a permission to link to the security role from the global permission list . The New Security Role Permission screen opens and all permissions are available in the Permission lookup, even if they have already been linked to the security role; OR - click
in the toolbar to lookup only permissions that are not already linked to the security role. Select whether the permissions should be grouped according to category (Link Permissions - Group per Category) or release (Link Permissions - Group per Release).
- click
- Select the permission(s) that apply to the security role and click Accept.
- Optionally, click the Excluded Properties tab on the security role permission edit screen, and define areas within the system functions that the security role must not have access to.
- Save the security role record.
As a result
- The selected permissions are linked to the security role.
- Optionally, excluded properties are defined.
Keep in mind
- A permission can only be assigned to a security role once.
- Permissions are filtered by the Is Permission Tree Role field of the security role; ie if Is Permission Tree Role is set to true on the security role, only tree permissions are displayed in the permission lookup. Non-tree permissions like Delete All Proposed Work Order Batches are only available on security roles where Is Permission Tree Role is set to false.
- Refer to Permissions Release Log for information on how new permissions are added per release.
